Description of research and teaching:

Timo Tuovinen is a medical professional based in Oulu, Finland. He specializes in neuroscience, eHealth, and physician leadership research. Currently, he is a PhD student nearing the completion of his doctoral thesis with the Oulu Functional NeuroImaging (OFNI) Group. His research primarily focuses on novel MRI-based imaging methods for measuring the brain's clearance system, specifically the glymphatic system. This approach may prove to be a valuable biomarker for CSF-mediated brain clearance, contributing to the clinical need for reliable and early diagnostic indicators of neurodegenerative conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. He has published 26 peer-reviewed scientific articles, two chapters in research books (peer-reviewed), several peer-reviewed articles in conference proceedings and articles in scientific journals and publications aimed at a professional audience. He has authored 26 opinion pieces or columns that have been published. He is a medical specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, and he is currently pursuing a specialization in neurosurgery where he serves as a chief resident. He also has years of experience teaching medicine at the University of Oulu. He has also been recognized for his contributions to both medical and social organizations, including scouting. He considers one of his most important achievements to be the father of two wonderful boys.
